My local telefoonnumber (excl. landcode):0988563521. Unfortunately, I cannot write my adress here, since its in Arabic. But I'll try to send you all a card with the written adress and then if you want to send me a card back you can paste it on your envelope :) hahahahhahaha there's a solution for everything!
My last blog was a bit chaotic, so here a clearer view :)
The people on the street are all mixed: hijab, no scarf at all, full hijab, 'skinny' clothes, 'modern/european' clothes, everything can be found!
There are a lot of taxi's and minibusses and in general many cars on the streets. The difference with Malawi is that in these busses full is full!
There are old peopel and young children who sell on the streets. But nobody bothers you and says: come come see this see this. And also the people of Damascus buy from the street.
A niece of my host was sick for a long time and unfortunately past away, so the last 3 evenings we went to here house. This are the traditional morning days in which people come to the house of the family of the deceased and pray for him/her for 3 days. This praying is to give the soul a sense of piece when it goes to the spirit world. You are not supposed to cry during these days, because it will confuse the soul.
During these 3 days I met one of the girls in the family who speaks very good english and we have been in contact ever since. On saturday I'll go shopping with her for a proper Syrian outfit :)
Love is shown here by pinching the cheeck and (loud/smakkende) kisses. People draw your attention (also in the family) by clicking their tongue/making kissing sounds and by saying your name.
We had one day of rain and my host was very happy, because water is scarce in Syria.
Good: when women have to stand in the bus, men stand up and give them their seat ^^
I had my first classes. Classes are from 1:30 till 6. From 5-6 its Qu'ran class in which you learn how to properly pronounce the words in the Qu'ran. It helps me with my pronounciation and reading.
The level is very high, so I got some private classes also! So now I'm in class from 12-6... its tiering, but its good!
There are many international students in the class. I met up with some girls who speak Enlgish, so I hope we will be able to get together often!

He Nienke leuk dat je aan me magneet denkt. Als het kan dan graag 1 met de landnaam erop dus syrie en de vlag maar weet natuurlijk niet of dat kan Damascus mag er ook op staan ik weet wel dat hij dan van jouw is. En het liefst heb ik er 1 die uitgesneden is in steen of zo eentje die je echt kan voelen. Maar gewoon een gladde mag natuurlijk ook kijk maar ik heb volste vertrouwen in je. als je nog naar een buurland gaat dan hou ik me natuurlijk aan bevolen.
heb je het wel naar je zin een beetje en lukt het met de taal je zit er al weer een week. Het gaat hard wijffie. Heb je nog wel meegekregen dat Esther onslag heeft genomen die was vandaag donderdag voor het laast.
He wijffie een dikke pakkerd ik lees het wel of het gelukt is. :) -

Wees voorzichting met de straat oversteken :p en veel succes met je lessen!
Ook fijn dat je wat mensen hebt leren kennen waar je Engels mee kunt spreken :) Hoe gaat het communiceren met je host?

He meis, wat fijn weer van je te horen, en zo snel ook :)! Heel bijzonder datje zoiets emotioneels en cultureels kan meemaken als het rouwen om een geliefde, dat zullen niet veel 'buitenlanders' meemaken denk ik zo. Hier gaat alles goed, huis goed en studie goed. Zoals je weet gaat het ex-amaproject begin april stoppen, dus gister was de gemeente op bezoek om even te beoordelen of wij de afgelopen twee jaren wel ons werk hebben gedaan! Schandalig, maar goed, het was een hele lange spannende dag gister. Heel veel plezier met je gastvrouw en alle leuke nieuwe mensen die je hebt leren kennen! X -
